President Mariam Sulaiman’s Message:

  1. I would like to wish all our Christian members a Merry Christmas! A little late but we hope all our Hindu friends also had a lovely Deepavali in October. We hope this year will bring you greater prosperity, good health, happiness and success!
  2. I would also like to welcome back Saro who has undergone surgery recently. Now that she has a clean bill of health, we hope she will not be doing any more disappearing act. We missed you Saro and we are happy you are back.
  3. I thank Bien for agreeing to produce another issue of the Berita. We look forward to more future issues.
  4. The following events took place in November:
Nov 18: Witnessed the soft launching of FEM (Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Malaysia) by YB Datuk Mustapha

Nov 7: Meeting with our Patron, YB Dato Seri Rafidah Aziz on the direction NAWEM Corporation should take in launching its Investment activities.

Nov 13: Witnessed the launching of book "Sans Malice" on Dato Seri Rafidah. (We have an autographed copy of the book in the NAWEM library for those interested in reading it.)

Nov 24: Internet Workshop attended by 13 NAWEM members on how to maximise the usefulness of the website.

The Committee has outlined the programme for 1998. We hope all members will take the opportunity to meet each other and generate new business.

GRAND DECEMBER EVENT

13 December 1997: NAWEM BALL a.k.a. Mad Hatters’ Nite organised by the NAWEM FUN CLUB…(Have you got your tickets yet?) Venue: KLGC, Bt Kiara, KL 7.30 p.m. - next morning. If you have not ever attended a NAWEM function, you have not lived! The Fun Club gals are really a dynamic group of women. If the rehearsals are anything to go by, you will witness the launching of the NAWEM ALL GIRLS REVUE made up of famous women (Rose Chan oops! I mean Roz Chung, Joanne Ng, Jenny Shabudin, Quek Lee Heng, Evelyn Chen, etc etc. They will sing and dance just for you, sacrificing their reputation and depriving their businesses of precious time!! Of course, you must also come just to see the over and ever-flowing talents of Ann Lee as Madame Antionnette Sheng-sheng-sheng. Yes, after the NAWEM Ball, you may never look at life the same way again.

The Fun Club is still looking for donations for door gifts and prizes. If you want to get some publicity for your products, here is a great opportunity to tell others about you. Call: Rozzana (Tel 2920251), Joanne Kong (Tel 6356870) or Joanne Ng (Tel 7564134)

Tickets are available from all the Committee members as well as the above Fun Club members.

Please be reminded that you must bring your ticket and a HAT to gain admittance into the hall. Those without suitable hats (no, not tudongs) will have to buy one at the door.

Congratulations!

NAWEM takes this opportunity to congratulate Dato’ Dr Ng Yen Yen on receiving her "Datoship" from HRH the Sultan of Pahang. Yen Yen is a new member of NAWEM.

We would also like to Congratulate Puan Sri Susan Cheah on being elected the first President of the Victoria University Technology Malaysian Alumni Association! Well done! I am sure the Alumni will flourish under your leadership.

A WORD ON TRAINING…

Since the launch of NAWEM we have conducted the following training programmes: Effective Management, Effective PR & Marketing Strategies, Success Teams, Basic Financial Management, and last month, Maximising the use of the Internet. Besides these, we have also arranged for members to attend specific talks such as the one sponsored by Normandy Advisory Services on Prudent Investment Strategies.

We would like members to let us know the training programmes they would like us to organise. Also, we would like members who are HRD specialists to submit training proposals for the Committee to consider conducting for all members. We have planned for three training programmes for 1998. INVITATIONS…

Visit to China: Committee member, Usha, of Farmasi Anda, is in China on a 3-day Environmentally Sound Techonology workshop under the sponsorship of UNDP.

Rawang Technology Park: NAWEM members have been invited by the Executive Chairman of Dasar Padu (M) Sdn Bhd to consider investing in industrial land for factories in Rawang. Interested parties can contact En Baharuddin Zainal at 7177701.

Foster Parenting: Peniagawati has extended an invitation to NAWEM members to attend the launching of their Foster Parenting programme on 13 December 1997 at 11.00 a.m. at Rumah Peniagawati, 1255 Jalan 17/31, Petaling Jaya. Those interested call NAWEM’s office to book a place.
