WORDS FROM THE TOP:

PRESIDENT MARIAM TAN SRI SULAIMAN

THANKS to Lesley Mah and her Team, the SWEPA ladies had a good time during their short stopover in Kuala Lumpur in September. Well done also to our NAWEM Models who apparently wowed all in sight. There may be more potential we have not tapped…

I have just returned from "The Women Leaders Network" Meeting at Ottawa, Canada from 13 - 16 September, 1997. We discussed a range of issues affecting women in APEC economies. The Malaysian delegation was led by FEM (Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Malaysia) President, Ybhg Datuk Nor Azah Awin. FEM will hosting the APEC Women’s Forum 1998 in Kuala Lumpur. So look out for the event next year.

For the information of members, FEM had a soft launch on 21 October 1997 by the Honourable Minister of Entrepreneur Development at his office.

The Nawem Committee has quite a number of activities lined up for you in the coming weeks. We hope members will turn up for them. It was quite disappointing that only 25% of the participants at our July Conference were our members. We would like to see more members attending our functions.

Techonology Park Visit

A Report by Quek Lee Heng, our former VP Membership

Thirty-five NAWEM ladies and one spouse arrived at the Technology Park on 2nd October and was welcomed by TPM GM, Annuar Mohd Saffar and Cik Shaliza Sabtu (Investment Manager). We learnt the operation of TPM (they have several divisions - Biotech, Venture Capital, Master Centre, etc) through a video presentation. CEO Dr Salleh was introduced to the ladies during Tea.

We had a walk-through the Master Centre where we popped into Datin Rehana’s office (Rehanstat Sdn Bhd) and into the moulding area. The highlight was not only the chance to see how moulds were made but also to examine Dr Gurcharan Singh’s circumcision gadget. (Hey, you missed something…)

The visit also included a stop at TPM’s state-of-the-art IT centre where we were briefed on off-campus studies and also the Millennium bug.

The visit was an eye-opener especially since some of us thought the Technology Park was where we learn to grow herbs!

A WORD FROM THE FUN CLUB BOSS…

We are looking for SPONSORS and DONORS for door gifts and prizes for the NAWEM BALL. This is a great opportunity for members to show off all the products that you are dealing with. Besides that we will be giving you lots and lots of publicity. The bigger the donation, the bigger (and louder) the acknowledgement you will receive e.g. backdrop, screaming over the microphone, etc.

The venue: Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, Off Jalan Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur.

The date: Saturday 13th December 1997.

Contact me (Tel 2920251), Joanne Kong (Tel 6356870) or Joanne Ng (Tel 7564134)

Help us to make the ball the maddest event of the century!

By the way, you do know that we are giving away a prize for the Maddest Hat displayed at the Ball!

See you at the Ball! Reply before 25 November 1997.

HOMEPAGES AND WEBSITES!

As all of you must be aware, NAWEM launched its homepage on the Internet during the July Conference. The launch was made possible through the joint talents of Shamsimar’s CD Communication and Swiftcom Sdn Bhd, a homepage developer and provider.

Subsequent to the launch, all the Committee members have linked their homepages onto NAWEM’s homepage. Have you visited the site? Do it NOW! <http://www.nawem.org.my>

Have you your own Homepage? Please let us have your homepage address so that we can link it with ours. Those of you who do not as yet have a homepage, call Arvi at Tel: 7047008 and make a date with him. It will only cost you RM350 p.a. It is worth the investment.
